Take a journey through Lois Ehlert’s colorful landscape where all the characters are pieced together out of vibrant Autumn leaves in the story of Leaf Man, then make your own leaf collage at home!
Leaf Collage
Materials needed:
- leaves
- paper
- scissors
- glue or glue stick
- crayons, color pencils, or markers
- stapler (optional)

Directions: Take a walk around your neighborhood or through a park and gather lots of different leaves. Try to find a variety of different shapes and colors. You can even talk about what kinds of trees the different leaves came from. On the end pages of the book Leaf Man, you will see many different leaves identified. Can you find some of the same kinds of leaves?

At home, look at all of your leaves and decide what kind of picture you want to make. I wanted to make a picture of an owl sitting on a tree branch. Use your scissors to cut the leaves if you need to make them into different shapes. What will you make?

Once you have all your leaves arranged on the paper the way you like, use the glue to keep in place. You may also want to draw on your paper as well. There is no limit to what you can make. Have fun and be creative!
