In honor of America250, Westlake is stepping up as a community and celebrating with Westlake250 events and activities. Westlake is joining communities across Ohio and the country in celebration of America250. Westlake250 is bringing together local organizations, businesses, and residents to celebrate what makes this community special.
What to look forward to this summer:
July 4th Celebration
The City of Westlake is planning a Fourth of July celebration that will be bigger than any before. After the parade, the city is hosting a full weekend of live music, activities, food trucks, and the not-to-be-missed fireworks display. The annual ringing of the bell will take place at the Westlake Aquatics Center at 2 p.m. when children will ring the bell for each of the original 13 colonies.
“Historical Passport” Turns Local Landmarks into an Adventure
Westlake has launched the Westlake Passport, a mobile-friendly experience that invites residents and visitors to explore the city’s history by visiting seven local markers, taking photos, and collecting digital stamps for each stop. Users can access the passport on their smartphone, follow prompts to confirm their location, and save stamp-style keepsakes along the way. Those who finish by August 31 are entered into a drawing for a $100 Crocker Park gift card.
At Westlake Porter Public Library
The library is hosting America250-themed programs and displays throughout the year. A highlight of the celebration will be a community reading of the Declaration of Independence, along with other activities, on July 8 at 6 p.m. in the Friends Pavilion. Additional events at Westlake Porter Public Library include a visit from a George Washington reenactor on July 7, “Discover Your Colonial Ancestors” on July 15 and the annual Rotary Art Festival on July 25. Ohio Goes to the Movies
Two monthly film series at the Community Services Center: Ohio Goes to the Movies celebrates films shot in or about Ohio, while Patriotic Friday Summer Films honors America’s military and historical milestones. Free and open to the public.
Westlake Historical Society
The Westlake Historical Society is adding depth with local history and insight into how the community has grown over time. Take part in some amazing events such as a 1776 Cooking Demonstration (June 7), Teddy Bear Overnight at Clague House (June 14), Vintage Baseball Game at Clague Park, and Baby Shower at Clague House. Clague Playhouse
Over at Clague Playhouse, the arts take center stage, offering performances that highlight storytelling in a different way. Check out several special productions throughout July on their website.
250 Acts of Kindness
The United States of Kindness is a nationwide campaign to mark America’s 250th anniversary through action. Take part in the 250 Acts of Kindness and share your stories to create a visible, unified movement that reaches every corner of the country. Tell your stories by tagging @USofKindess and use #USK250. Westlake Porter Public Library is a proud partner of Kindland, part of Values-in-Action’s “Just Be Kind” campaign.
