May 4th is known internationally as Star Wars Day, but it is also the Anniversary (51st) of a historical event much closer to home.

On May 41970, members of the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of Kent State University demonstrators, killing four and wounding nine Kent State students. While the event occurred about an hour away from Cleveland, Ohio, the ramifications were felt
around the world.

Kent State University has a page dedicated to the Commemoration of this event.

Of course, no reflection on Kent State University, May 4, 1970 would be complete without a listen to the song Ohio, written by Neil Young and performed with Crosby, Stills and Nash. It is included on Neil Young Greatest Hits.
