(Westlake) Alice Lang received the 2024 Myrna Chelko Volunteer Award from Westlake Porter Public Library during a May 1 volunteer recognition event. The award is given annually to the volunteer who best demonstrates the spirit of volunteerism exemplified by its namesake, Myrna Chelko. In addition, Lynn Pettyjohn was given special recognition for her work as the President of the Friends of Porter Public Library Board.
Mrs. Lang has volunteered at the library for more than twenty years, serving as a member of the Friends Board for over ten. Since 2003 she has logged over 2,000 hours of service. Mrs. Lang is known for her positive attitude, enthusiasm, and passion for the library. Her work and concern for her co-volunteers in the Book Nook are exemplary.
“Westlake Porter Public Library is fortunate to have so many people who are willing to donate their time to ensure that we are the best,” said Director Andrew Mangels. “Alice embodies the wonderful and gracious attitude and spirit that we value in all of our volunteers and staff.”
Myrna Chelko was a long-time library volunteer who was known for her dedication to the library and her hard work. She helped found the Friends of Porter Public Library fifty years ago (1972), and her many volunteer services include being an officer of that group and a Library Board member.
