It’s NaNoWriMo! That glorious time of year when we sit down with pen and paper, and challenge ourselves to write 50,000 words in one month! To help you along to achieving your goal this month, here’s a little challenge.

We are going to give you the first line of a story. See what you can create!

He opened his eyes and took a step forward.

Submit the start of your creation, no more than 250 words to

by Monday, Nov. 23rd. Please put “Start Your Story” in the subject line. The best submissions will be posted at the end of the month in a separate blog post.

  • Please make sure your submission is appropriate for all ages. Westlake Porter Public Library reserves the right not to post if we feel that the content is not appropriate for a general audience.
  • Your submission can include name and age, or be anonymous.
  • Ages 13 and up can submit.
  • We will not edit for grammar and spelling.
